Why Ride Norway With Us?

Norway is not a destination you improvise. The fjord roads are spectacular but the logistics — ferry timings, tunnel restrictions for cyclists, remote accommodation that books months in advance — require genuine local knowledge to get right. A badly planned Norwegian cycling week can mean long detours, missed connections and stages that end somewhere you didn't intend.

Norway has been part of our portfolio from the start — and it's the destination where that experience shows most. We know which ferry schedules are non-negotiable, which tunnel alternatives are actually worth the extra climbing, and how to build a Lofoten itinerary that doesn't leave you stranded waiting for a connection at the wrong end of the island. The scenery handles itself. The planning is where we earn our keep.

Every tour we plan for you includes:

  • Detailed self-guided itinerary with route notes and daily stage information

  • GPS tracks and a navigation app loaded before you leave

  • All accommodations booked, with breakfast included

  • Daily luggage transfer between hotels

  • Bike rental delivered straight to your first hotel

  • 24/7 support from our team throughout your trip

You ride. We handle everything else.

The Most Dramatic Roads in Europe

Norway's cycling season runs late May through September. June and July are the peak months — long days, warmer temperatures, and in the north, the midnight sun.

May and September offer quieter roads and lower accommodation prices, but come prepared for cooler weather and shorter daylight. For the Lofoten Islands and Arctic routes specifically, June to mid-August is the only realistic window — outside this, conditions become genuinely unpredictable.

World renowned cycling routes like:

  • The Rallarvegen — a 80 km gravel road following the historic Bergen Railway construction path from Haugastøl to Flåm, descending 900 metres to the fjord. One of the most celebrated cycling routes in Scandinavia.

  • Trollstigen — the famous "Troll's Path", an 11% mountain road of eleven hairpins immortalised in photographs. Challenging, dramatic and utterly Norwegian.

  • The Atlantic Ocean Road — a series of bridges across skerries and islands on Norway's wild western coast, with the open North Sea on one side and mountain backdrop on the other.

Ride and see the most of what Norway has to offer:

  • South Fjords (3/5 activity level) — Bergen-based, fjord cruises and Norway's most accessible introduction to fjord cycling

  • Ultimate Fjords Challenge (5/5 activity level) — the most demanding tour in our entire portfolio

  • Lofoten Islands (3/5 activity level) — Arctic archipelago, fishing villages, mountain peaks rising from the sea

  • Arctic Norway (3/5 activity level) — coastline between Tromsø and Svolvær under the midnight sun

Norway surprises most cyclists with how manageable the riding is — outside the mountain tours, roads are quiet, surfaces are excellent, and traffic is minimal even in summer.

One important practical note: many road tunnels in Norway are prohibited for cyclists, sometimes for safety reasons, sometimes due to length and poor ventilation. Our GPS tracks account for this entirely — every alternative route is planned in advance.

Attempting to navigate Norwegian tunnel restrictions without local knowledge is one of the most common sources of frustration for self-organised riders.

Above the Arctic Circle in June and July, the sun doesn't set. At all.

There is no urgency, no racing against the light. You can stop at a viewpoint at 10pm, keep riding at midnight, or eat dinner at a waterfront restaurant while the sun hangs low over the water.

Most cyclists describe it as one of the most disorienting and memorable things they've ever done on a bike. Pack a sleep mask.

Norway connects naturally into a wider Scandinavian cycling journey. Denmark is the most accessible pairing — Copenhagen is a short flight from Oslo, and the contrast between Denmark's flat infrastructure cycling and Norway's raw mountain landscape makes for a genuinely varied two-country trip.

Frequently Asked Questions

The South Fjords and Lofoten Islands tours are both rated 3/5 on our activity level scale — manageable for regular cyclists comfortable with multi-day riding. Daily distances average 50–70 km and the terrain, while hilly, doesn't involve extreme climbing on most stages.

The Ultimate Fjords Challenge at 5/5 is a different matter entirely — it's the most demanding tour in our entire portfolio and requires serious preparation.

If in doubt about which tour suits you, get in touch before booking.

This is the single most important practical thing to understand before cycling in Norway. There are over 1,000 road tunnels in the country — many are long, narrow, unlit, and banned for cyclists entirely, either for safety reasons or due to fumes from traffic.

Every GPS track in our Norway tours is planned specifically to account for tunnel restrictions. Alternative routes are pre-mapped and included. Attempting to navigate this independently without local knowledge is one of the most common sources of serious disruption for self-organised cyclists in Norway.

Honest answer: unpredictable, even in summer. The Atlantic coast in particular experiences frequent weather fronts — it can be raining above you while sunshine breaks through just across the fjord. Temperatures in summer typically range from 12–22°C, occasionally warmer inland.

This is not a reason to avoid Norway — the light after a passing shower on a fjord road is extraordinary. It is a reason to pack a good waterproof jacket regardless of the forecast and embrace the variability as part of the experience.

Ferries are a genuine and enjoyable part of Norwegian cycling — not just a logistical necessity. Most fjord crossings use local car ferries where cyclists board as pedestrians for a small fee, often just a few euros. Shorter crossings run frequently throughout the day and rarely require advance booking.

Our itineraries include all ferry crossings, with timings built into each stage. Longer coastal ferry sections are pre-booked as part of your tour package.

The short answer is not reliably on our summer cycling tours — the midnight sun season and Northern Lights season don't overlap. The Northern Lights appear from late August onwards as darkness returns to the Arctic, peaking through winter.

Late September on the Arctic Norway tour offers the best chance of catching the first Northern Lights of the season while still being able to cycle. It's not guaranteed, but it's possible — and the autumn light in northern Norway is spectacular regardless.

Yes — Norway is one of the more expensive countries in our portfolio.

Accommodation, food and any extras are priced at Scandinavian levels, which means noticeably higher than southern Europe. Our tours include accommodation with breakfast throughout, which removes the daily uncertainty.

The scenery, road quality and overall experience justify it for most cyclists. It's worth knowing in advance rather than being surprised on the road.

Most of our tours start in Bergen — well connected by direct flights from most European cities. Bergen is also reachable by overnight train from Oslo for those who prefer rail. Rail tickets for Norway can be purchased on Norway Trains.

The Lofoten and Arctic tours start further north, typically requiring a flight to Tromsø or Bodø, both of which have direct connections from Oslo and seasonal European flights.

Full arrival instructions are included with every booking.

Discover Europe's finest cycling holidays and bike tours — iconic routes, stunning landscapes, and unforgettable adventures for every kind of rider.
