Why Ride The UK With Us?

Cycling the UK means something different depending on which part you're in — and that difference is worth understanding before you book.

Scotland is raw and remote. The North Coast 500 is one of the most talked-about cycling routes in Europe — nearly 10,000 m of climbing on some of the most dramatic and isolated roads on the continent.

England surprises. The Cotswolds, the Thames Valley, the Jurassic Coast — quieter than most visitors expect, with more variety than the country's cycling reputation suggests.

Wales is the hidden one. More castles per square mile than anywhere in Europe, mountain roads that earn their reputation and mid-Wales lanes that carry almost no traffic even in peak summer.

We have planned and tested routes across all three. We know which sections of the NC500 to reroute away from fast main roads, which Cotswolds stages deliver more than the obvious itinerary, and which parts of the Lôn Las Cymru need more time than most cyclists allow.

Every tour we plan for you includes:

  • GPS tracks and a navigation app loaded before you leave

  • All accommodations booked, with breakfast included

  • Daily luggage transfer between hotels

  • Bike rental delivered straight to your first hotel

  • 24/7 support from our team throughout your trip

You ride. We handle everything else.

Wales is one of Britain's best-kept cycling secrets.

The Cycling Holidays Wales tour covers 10 days through Snowdonia and the Brecon Beacons, rated 4/5 — one of the most demanding and rewarding tours in the UK portfolio.

More castles per square mile than anywhere in Europe, mountain roads that earn their reputation and mid-Wales lanes that carry almost no traffic even in peak summer.

The UK cycling season runs May through September across all three countries — but each has its sweet spot.

  • Scotland — May and June offer the longest days and quietest roads before the midge season peaks.

  • England — May, June and September are strongest; the Cotswolds and Cornwall get busy in July and August.

  • Wales — May and September deliver the best combination of green landscapes, golden light and quiet roads.

Come prepared for rain in any month. All three reward those who pack properly.

The UK weather is not a reason not to come. It is a reason to pack properly.

  • Scotland is the most unpredictable — sunshine, rain and wind can all happen on the same afternoon.

  • England is milder and more settled, particularly in the south and east.

  • Wales sits in the path of Atlantic weather systems — lush for good reason, with showers that pass quickly and leave the mountains a shade of green that exists nowhere else in Britain.

A good waterproof jacket is non-negotiable in all three countries, in any month.

Still deciding? Here is the honest breakdown:

  • Scotland — raw, remote and demanding. Come for the wilderness, stay for the views you had to earn

  • England — more variety than anyone expects. Riverside paths, coastal roads, cathedral cities and countryside that just keeps delivering

  • Wales — the one cyclists consistently say they underestimated. Mountain terrain, medieval castles and roads so quiet you'll wonder where everyone else went

Frequently Asked Questions

It depends entirely on what you want from the ride.

  • Scotland — the most dramatic and most demanding. Best for experienced riders who want genuine remoteness and don't mind unpredictable weather as part of the experience

  • England — the most varied and accessible. Something for almost every activity level, from flat riverside paths to coastal climbs and cultural stops

  • Wales — the most underrated. Compact, dramatic and surprisingly quiet — particularly strong for riders who want mountain terrain without the crowds

If you're unsure which suits you, schedule a free meeting with us and we'll help you decide.

Not for most of our tours — but experience requirements vary significantly by route.

The Isle of Wight, Thames Path and Cotswolds tours are rated 2/5 and suit occasional cyclists comfortable with a few hours in the saddle. The Cornwall and Hadrian's Cycleway tours step up to 3/5 — suitable for regularly active riders. The Coast to Coast, Cairngorm, Caledonia Way and Wales tours are 4/5 and require solid fitness and touring experience. The North Coast 500 at 5/5 is the most demanding tour in the portfolio and is not a starting point for anyone new to multi-day cycling.

Yes — and many of our cyclists do.

Let us know in advance and we'll ensure the logistics account for it. Our pre-departure notes specify the right tyre width and gearing for each tour's terrain so you can prepare before you travel. Bike rental remains available if preferred — matched to your tour and delivered to your first hotel.

One practical note for flying: if you're travelling from outside the UK, check your airline's bike transport policy well in advance. Bike boxes and fees vary significantly between carriers.

For booking airplane tickets to the UK countries and seeing whether you can bring a bike we recommend exploring options on Expedia and Skyscanner.

No — helmets are not legally required for adults cycling in England, Scotland or Wales.

That said, we always recommend wearing one regardless of the law, particularly on routes that include road sections and mountain descents. Helmets are available to include with your rental if needed.

On the right routes — yes.

Our tours are specifically planned to use quiet country lanes, converted railway trails, canal towpaths and dedicated cycling paths wherever possible. The busiest main roads are avoided throughout.

The practical caveat worth knowing: narrow country lanes in summer can see tourist rental cars navigating unfamiliar roads — predictable, assertive riding handles most situations. Our route notes flag any sections that require extra attention.

Yes — bikes are permitted on most National Rail services with advance reservation.

This is genuinely useful for UK touring: if a stage turns out to be longer than expected, or the weather closes in, catching a train to the next stop is always a practical option.

Some busy commuter routes have restrictions during peak hours. Our pre-departure notes flag the most useful train options on every tour and link to booking resources.

More so than its reputation suggests.

Accommodation, food and transport within the UK are broadly comparable to France or Germany. The Isle of Wight and Great Glen Way tours are among the most affordable in the portfolio.

The Sussex Vineyards and North Coast 500 tours sit at the higher end — reflecting the quality of accommodation and the remoteness of the logistics involved.

The honest answer: the UK is not the cheapest destination in our portfolio, but it consistently delivers on scenery and variety.

It depends on the tour and where you're travelling from.

  • Scottish tours start in Inverness — direct flights from Amsterdam, Dublin and several European cities, plus the Caledonian Sleeper overnight train from London which carries bikes with advance booking

  • English tours connect via London, Oxford or Exeter — Eurostar from Paris and Brussels reaches London St Pancras directly, with onward rail connections across the country

  • Wales — Cardiff is under 2 hours from London Paddington by train; north Wales tours connect via Holyhead

Full arrival instructions are included with every booking.

Discover Europe's finest cycling holidays and bike tours — iconic routes, stunning landscapes, and unforgettable adventures for every kind of rider.
